Testing, Testing, CBD: The Importance of Third Party Lab Tests
With limited regulations and government oversight, the CBD industry has been compared to a modern Wild West. Investigative reporters, such as the ones at ABC News in Washington, have discovered that test results can belie a very different picture than what’s printed on a CBD product’s package. In fact, according to a recent JAMA study, out of 84 CBD products tested, only 26 had accurate labels. That’s why CNN recommends that consumers only purchase CBD that has lab tests, ensuring what’s inside the package lines up with what’s printed on the package.
We’ve been committed to the highest standards of quality from our founding principles. From our very first batch, all of ECO Therapy’s CBD vape pens and mints have been tested by SC Labs, an independent, third party lab. In fact, SC Labs is known in the industry to be the leading testing institution, and it was one of the very first to advocate for consumer safety through testing in the cannabis space. Potency
The potency section shows the cannabinoids present in each batch and in what quantity. SC Labs conducts full spectrum cannabinoid profiling and analysis utilizing High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC/UV).
You’ll see that our CBD vape pens and mints are THC-free, and the amount of CBD in our products is verified.
Since our full spectrum CBD comes from the whole plant, you’ll see other naturally occurring cannabinoids from hemp in our batches, such as CBDV. Most of the research on CBDV has been focused on its effects on epilepsy and seizures, as it is a cannabinoid often found in strains high in CBD. While scientists are still discovering what this cannabinoid does, it shows promise for being effective for anti-nausea. In animal models, it has been shown to work with the CB1 receptors to prevent nausea. Other cannabinoids found in our CBD vape pens include: CBG, CBGa, CBC, and CBN (all of which are being studied with promising discoveries as of date).
Terpenes
The terpenes section of the lab test highlights which ones are present. We have formulated our CBD vape pens and mints to contain specialized terpenes to specifically enhance your well being and mood, whether you want to Revive, Relax, or Rest. Pesticides
An imperative part of the lab results is the Pesticide Test. This portion screens for pesticide and fungicide residue, testing for 67 different compounds! That’s how many types of pesticides and fungicides can be used in growing cannabis.
Microbiological
The Microbiological Test screens for fungal and bacterial contamination, including salmonella and the toxin that produces E.coli.
Mycotoxin
Mycotoxins, from the Greek words “fungus” and “poison,” are toxins produced by mold that can cause disease and death. This is an important part of the lab test to ensure that the hemp plants are clean and not contaminated by mold and the toxins they produce.
